Job Description:

Overview:

The Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP) Counselor will work with GMMMC Hospital, Sukkur in accordance with MCHIP – Jhpiego protocols and guidelines to motivate and counsel the clients for PPIUCD and implant insertion along with other family planning activities in Civil Hospital, Sukkur. Responsibilities include program development, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, materials development, conduct on-the-job training and coaching.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with other program staff to ensure necessary program planning, development and management activities function smoothly and efficiently.
  • Counsel the clients for family planning in ANC, LR, post-natal ward and Gynae OT
  • Generate clients for PPIUCD and implant insertion
  • Keep record of service provided clients
  • Collect and report the rate of PPIUCD and implant insertions done in the facility on daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Provide support to service provider to indent IUCD/ implant
  • Ensure that commodities (e.g. PPIUCD, implants) supply chain is maintained
  • Maintain record of follow up clients
  • Provide health education to clients on personal hygiene, diet and follow up care
  • Maintain and ensure Infection Prevention (IP) practices in birth area
  • Provide support in training events by identifying clients for skills demonstration
  • Report to Senior Clinical Supervisor if IP practices/hygiene rules are not respected
  • Remain current in all clinical matters and relating to Jhpiego’s mission, adapt and apply new information as needed
  • Contribute to the development of novel knowledge management and sharing tools and processes.
  • Daily and weekly report to Program Officer – Training Institutes
  • Monthly compiled report
  • Proper and timely record keeping
  • Record of all service provide clients
  • Ensure implementation of infection prevention practices
  • Ensure uptake of PPFP methods by clients.

Qualification, Experience and Required Skills:

  • Successful completion of Bachelors program or diploma in nursing, midwifery or LHV training program
  • Work experience of at least one year in hospital setting will be preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to relate well to a diverse patient population, health care providers, clinic support staff, and peers.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the discussion of reproductive health, sexuality, contraception, pregnancy options OR similar issues requiring a high level of sensitivity to client responses, confidentiality, and theoretical knowledge.
