This role involves managing a team of five professionals and collaborating closely with engineering, project, and stores departments to ensure uninterrupted supply of critical materials and technical services. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic spares, as well as managing procurement of MRO items and factory consumables, ensuring stock availability and timely delivery aligned with operational demands. They will also lead CAPEX procurement initiatives, coordinating with OEMs and project teams to conduct vendor evaluations, price negotiations, and oversee delivery and installation schedules for new equipment and systems. The role requires a thorough understanding of vendor management, contract negotiation, and supply chain principles paired with strong technical acumen for analyzing specifications and evaluating vendor capabilities. The Assistant Manager will ensure compliance with company policies, maintain procurement documentation, and collaborate with finance and stores for smooth transaction flows. Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP/MM, underpins the management of procurement workflows. Continuous market research and cost optimization initiatives are also central to this position, enabling the company to stay competitive and optimize spend. This position demands at least 5-7 years of professional experience in technical procurement within a manufacturing or industrial setting, supported by a relevant engineering degree.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end procurement of engineering spares including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components to meet maintenance and production requirements.
  • Manage timely procurement of maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) items such as lubricants, tools, safety gear, and general consumables, ensuring uninterrupted factory operations.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering and stores teams to maintain optimal stock levels for critical and fast-moving items through accurate demand forecasting and inventory management.
  • Support engineering and project teams in procurement of capital equipment including machines, utility systems, and packaging lines by issuing Requests for Quotations (RFQs), conducting thorough technical and commercial evaluations, and managing vendor negotiations.
  • Interface regularly with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and various project stakeholders to confirm equipment specifications, delivery schedules, installation plans, and commissioning timelines for CAPEX projects.
  • Source and manage external service providers for equipment maintenance, calibration, fabrication, and civil/electrical/mechanical works; establish and monitor service-level agreements to ensure quality and timely service delivery.
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities rigorously and maintain comprehensive documentation including work orders, certifications, and completion reports for all outsourced engineering and maintenance services.
  • Develop and sustain a reliable vendor base calibrated to the companys quality and cost standards by performing regular vendor performance reviews, maintaining vendor scorecards, and negotiating contracts effectively to secure favorable terms and compliance.
  • Ensure strict compliance with company procurement policies, standard operating procedures, and audit requirements by maintaining detailed documentation for all purchases, including comparative statements, justifications, and approval records.
  • Collaborate with finance for timely vendor payments and with stores to confirm accurate goods receipts and update inventory records promptly to reflect current stock status.
  • Conduct market intelligence activities to stay informed on the latest supplier offerings, emerging technologies, and material alternatives that could drive cost savings, improve quality, or reduce lead times.
  • Participate actively in annual budgeting and forecasting exercises for factory-related procurement and capital expenditure to align procurement strategies with financial objectives.
  • Manage and mentor a team of five procurement professionals, overseeing their performance, providing guidance on procurement best practices, and fostering a collaborative working environment focused on continuous improvement.
  • Utilize ERP systems proficiently, especially SAP/MM, to streamline procurement processes, track purchase orders, vendor information, and support end-to-end transaction visibility and control.
